1) allowing even more development in these floodplains?
2) rebuilding in these areas instead of working to move people out to other areas.
Such building and repair is ultimately a waste of taxpayer dollars.
Flooding will only get worse as we develop every single parcel of land in CH and Carrboro.

Use the Town’s resources to preserve the entire PH Craig Tract instead.

Comment on Why Friends of Bolin Creek opposes the $1.4 million design plan for the Bolin Creek Greenway in Carrboro by Sue-Anne Solem https://bolincreek.org/blog/2025/05/02/why-friends-of-bolin-creek-opposes-the-1-4-million-design-plan-for-the-bolin-creek-greenway-in-carrboro/#comment-36517 Mon, 05 May 2025 20:33:00 +0000 https://bolincreek.org/blog/?p=5910#comment-36517 I live along Bolin Creek on Umstead Drive. I witnessed the felling and chipping of many trees along the riparian zone, as well as consruction of the Greenway, over a two year period. It was a disturbing, noisy project. Since its completion, scrubbing along the banks of the stream has gotten worse, ruining the balance of macroinvertebrates that form the basis for the wildlife in the river. But more than that, with every heavy rainfall the creek floods, sometimes several feet high. Our road has flooded many times, resulting in road closing, making it difficult to come or go from my house. One year it flooded up to the bottom of our mailbox. I’ve lived in this house 23 years and never before witnessed flooding like this. And with every flood comes a big cleanup with noisy machinery that usually starts early in the morning. At the least, it is a nuisance; at the most it is dangerous, costly, and really bad for the creek ecosystem. PLEASE! DO NOT create another disaster by choosing to construct another bikeway along the riparian zone of Bolin Creek!

Comment on Why Friends of Bolin Creek opposes the $1.4 million design plan for the Bolin Creek Greenway in Carrboro by Clare Brown https://bolincreek.org/blog/2025/05/02/why-friends-of-bolin-creek-opposes-the-1-4-million-design-plan-for-the-bolin-creek-greenway-in-carrboro/#comment-36355 Sat, 03 May 2025 20:08:35 +0000 https://bolincreek.org/blog/?p=5910#comment-36355 What we love about Carrboro is it’s natural beauty. Bolin Creek is a wonderful part of this. To pave over areas of woodlands is terrible for the forest, for the creek and for the creatures who live there. Different reports that have been undertaken clearly indicate there are financial, engineering and environmental problems with the plan. PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS!
