I was in architectural school and had a project to do drawings of an historic building in NC the next summer. We were shown the stone and glass modern and stunning home and the land grant cottage as well as the original land grant. I will be 75 this week and that visit is one of the most memorable events of my life. I never got to do the drawings. I was the only student in the sophomore class to get A in my architectural design class and and A in my landscape design class but family matters forced me to go to work after that year.
I spent all the time I could going to my grandfathers farm growing up. He got all the grandchildren horses so we delighted in helping him and riding in what is now Eno River State Park. My dream was to have my own farm one day and while I lived about 25 years of my life close to your farm and never could find it until we moved to Troutman on our Suri alpaca farm. This article helped me know how close we lived to you. I did remember it was close to Calvander. We lived in Strayhorn Hills off Old NC 10.
I have issues riding in a car now but when my cousin, who is in New York visits NC hopefully in the fall, I hope we can visit you and she can share what I once experienced that was so enthralling which was the history of our family as well as the architecture of the cabin and the new home.
